Here is the trick

This works so well if you pick a darkish spot in the passage at night time, about waist height. It also works great in the dark accross a door frame when a person must actually enter their room to switch a light on, then you catch them before they get to the light switch, it totally freaks people out! The upside of the door frame is you have way more space to tape without it being noticed.
